OSU Reading and English Placement Exams
OSU uses the College Board's ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Reading and Writing tests for the OSU Reading and English Placement exam.
ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Writing Test
- A broad-spectrum computer-adaptive assessment of test takers' developed ability to revise a range of prose texts for effective expression of idea and for conformity to the conventions of Standard Written English sentence structure, usage and punctuation.
- Questions are multiple choice in format and appear in sets built around a common, extended passage; no discrete (standalone) questions are included.
- The test is untimed, though most students complete the exam within an hour.
ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Reading Test
- A broad-spectrum computer-adaptive assessment of test takers' developed ability to derive meaning from a range of prose texts and to determine the meaning of words and phrases in short and extended contexts.
- Questions are multiple choice in format and are either discrete (standalone) or part of sets built around common passage or passages.
- The test is untimed, though most students complete the exam within an hour.
Fees
There is a $10 fee payable to OSU-Tulsa. This fee can be paid by using credit card (cardholder must be present with ID), cash in bursar office, or current students may charge to their OSU Bursar account.
Registration
Reading and English Placement exams are offered during the Testing Center's normal hours of operation. Appointments are required to ensure an available computer. Call or email the Testing Center to make an appointment.
Required Identification
Examinees must present an acceptable photo ID before being permitted to test. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver's license, school I.D., military I.D., health department I.D. or current passport.
Scoring Information
Students must score a 263 or greater to satisfy the English and/or Reading remediation requirement at OSU. Students may request a print-out of their score report upon completion. However, advisors will have access to the score reports through the OSU system.
Retest Policy
Students may take the exams twice but must wait at least 24 hours between attempts.
